Function meets Google Health - labs join the wearable stream
14th October 2026
Function Health and Google Health announced a partnership that will let US users share Function lab results into the Google Health app later this fall. The aim is to read daily wearable signals - sleep, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, cardio load - against periodic lab panels of more than 160 tests, with Function’s Medical Intelligence layer translating results into guidance.
Key takeaways:
- The pairing closes a real gap: wearables track trends continuously but cannot measure markers such as ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin or hs-CRP; labs measure them but only in snapshots
- Distribution is the prize for Function - Google’s Fitbit and Pixel installed base - while Google gains the clinical depth its consumer health app has lacked
- Rollout is staged and US-only at launch: lab-result sharing arrives later this fall, not today
Hype check: Proven - the partnership and the planned data-sharing feature. Promising - that combined lab-plus-wearable insight changes behaviour or outcomes; unproven so far. Marketing - the announcement language about complete health understanding; no outcome data accompanies the deal.
Why it matters - Preventive diagnostics is consolidating around whoever owns the daily health home screen. This deal is a marker for where the business of longevity data is heading - integration, not another standalone dashboard.
